Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian/American media critic is also a speaker. She is the founder of Feminist Frequency which hosts videos and commentary analyzing depictions of women's roles in popular culture. Anita Sarkeesian a Canadian American media critic. She is the creator and director of executive for Feminist Frequency A scholarly not-for-profit site that examines the representation of women within popular stories of culture. Alongside working to bring awareness to sexual harassment and assaults on women and others of minority groups in the online world, she is dedicated to breaking down stereotypes that are in the popular culture. Sarkeesian holds a Masters in social and political thinking at York University. As a public speaker, she's highly sought after and has given talks at TEDxWomenXOXO and the United Nations Broadband Working Group. At a young age she was intrigued with gender issues and feminist thought. While still at school in 2009, she created her Feminist Frequency website. This ambitious woman planned to launch an internet series on gender representation in games, however, she was also the subject of an online campaign to harass her. But the assault did have been a hindrance, rather it was a boost to her determination to be a feminist media critic. Sarkeesian has been awarded numerous awards in recognition of her many notable contributions to the field of feminism. Anita Sarkeesian has been a media critic for many years and is the founder of Feminist Frequency. The educational nonprofit explores women's representations in the pop-culture narratives.
